Compare pay using the same assumptions
When comparing two job offers, use the same filing status, pay frequency, and benefit assumptions for both. Wageglass can compare annual salary or hourly pay, and the estimated per-check amount changes with weekly, biweekly, semimonthly, or monthly pay periods.
A higher gross salary does not by itself show how much more will land in each check. Review annual take-home and per-paycheck take-home together, especially when the jobs pay on different schedules.
Read a marginal tax bracket carefully
A marginal tax bracket applies its rate to the part of taxable income inside that bracket. Moving into a higher bracket does not apply the higher rate to every dollar of income. Wageglass estimates annual income tax using modeled 2026 brackets and then divides the estimate across the selected pay periods.
Review deductions and benefits
Traditional 401(k) contributions and entered health premiums affect the modeled taxable wage base. The calculator accepts a 401(k) contribution as a percentage or an annual amount. Compare scenarios with the same assumptions, and check your employer plan because benefit tax treatment can vary.
Check the state and local picture
State income-tax schedules differ, and local taxes may also depend on where you live or work. Wageglass includes a modeled state income-tax estimate for the selected location but does not include local income taxes, some state credits, state disability or paid-leave payroll items, or every special rule.
Browse the state take-home pay calculator guides for model notes and a comparable sample paycheck, or read how the estimate is calculated.
Use estimates as a comparison tool
Employer withholding can differ because of Form W-4 elections, pay-period methods, bonuses, multiple jobs, benefits, location, and personal tax circumstances. Wageglass is free to use without signup, and calculator inputs stay in your browser; the result is for general comparison, not tax advice or an official withholding calculation. Check payroll details or consult a qualified tax professional for personal guidance.
